Chela on the Thread: Psychic Powers I – Wisdom vs. Wilber

With this post we move beyond the levels typically talked about by Integral and enter territory that demands increased exploration and understanding. As conveyed by the Alice Bailey teachings this stage of Chela on the Thread requires increased mastery of the subtle (or psychic) realms, a process that is talked about to some degree by Integral, but not in the same way, or in the same amount.

To understand this stage of spiritual development we will need to look at how the Ageless Wisdom teachings view the subtle realms, especially in regards to psychic powers. As with all of these posts it is impossible to do more than an initial orientation, but there is some hope that you will at least comprehend the difference between what the Ageless Wisdom teachings call higher and lower psychic powers by the time this post is done.

Chela on the Thread, Intro – Wisdom vs. Wilber

This post continues the look at the Six Stages of Discipleship moving into Stage Four, Chela on the Thread. The post gives an introduction as to what the phrase Chela on the Thread means and outlines the major tasks that need to be undergone before this stage is completed. It also lays the groundwork for future posts where this stage is compared more in depth regarding what is talked about in the Integral/Ken Wilber approach.

To orient us let me again remind those of you who are reading these posts of the Six Stages of Discipleship. They are: Little Chelaship, Chela in the Light, Accepted Discipleship, Chela on the Thread, Chela in the Aura, Chela in the Master’s Heart. With Chela on the Thread we get a symbolic understanding that we are being linked up somehow. There is a thread that connects us with something else. As we will come to understand knowing what that something is, and discerning it correctly, is a big part of what the Chela on the Thread stage is all about. Also, when we review again the chart on Levels and Terms you will notice that I have currently assigned this stage to what corresponds to Violet/Indigo in the Integral model and the 2nd Initiation (expansion of consciousness) in the Ageless Wisdom model.

Accepted Discipleship: Mystic/Occultist – Wisdom vs. Wilber

Moving on with our exploration of Stage Three: Accepted Discipleship from the Ageless Wisdom teachings, this post examines how we are told to blend the mystic with the occultist (heart and head), and explores how this might relate to certain things taught in the Integral approach by Ken Wilber.

The phrases mystic and occultist are not found in our modern day popular vocabulary much. If they are mentioned, they are often relegated to some sort of weird or distorted way of being, and in the case of the word occultist, this word may even be associated with something demonic. These constitute major distortions in understanding. Before we can begin any kind of comparison, and how we are supposed to blend the two, we need to better comprehend what we mean by these terms.

Accepted Discipleship: Love – Wisdom vs. Buddhism

In the stage of Accepted Discipleship we must learn to love in an impersonal, spontaneous and truly heartfelt way. But, how do we get there? This post offers insights of how to do this using the book How to Expand Love by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

If we are to become Accepted Disciples and really learn to love, then we need an effective approach in how to do this. In my many studies on this, there is one book that stands out, which is explained more in this post.  Again, it is called How to Expand Love by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. On the surface, this book seems simple. In practice, it is not so easy.  Yet, if we are to move from “Little Chelaship” where love is idealistic, but lacks the intelligent know-how, or “Chela in the Light” with the tendency towards criticism and approaching love as an effort to love and not spontaneous wise loving, then we need to put into place these principles.  Of course in this post, I can only briefly outline them.  They are much better explained in the book.

Accepted Discipleship: Impersonality & Love – Wisdom vs. Wilber

In this post I speak more about the main lessons that must be learned in Alice Bailey’s Accepted Discipleship stage, speaking mainly about Impersonality and Love. I then compare these aspects of the Accepted Discipleship stage with the Integral model by Ken Wilber, showing how these aspects mainly fit in with their Turquoise and Indigo levels.

In the Alice Bailey model as we shift into Accepted Discipleship we move increasingly into the Sacrifice petals, especially what is known as the Sacrifice/Love petals. Here we are no longer concerned with just knowledge, we are concerned with love. As we learn what love really is, and learn how to come from a real place of love, sacrifice is the natural result. Our sacrifices happen in a joyful way for the benefit of greater and greater wholes beyond ourselves.

Accepted Discipleship: Dispelling Glamours, Wisdom vs. Wilber

Continuing to examine Stage Three: Accepted Discipleship from the Ageless Wisdom teachings, this post examines more closely the need to “dispel glamours” and how this might relate to certain things taught in the Integral approach by Ken Wilber.

As a reminder I a putting up the list again of the primary tasks I have identified in reading the books by Alice Bailey regarding what needs to be accomplished during her stage of Accepted Discipleship.  I am also reposting the chart I have been putting on these posts related to the Six Stages of Discipleship.  As this is a comparative series between Ageless Wisdom and Integral, I will follow the same process I have been doing in most of my other posts, listing the Ageless Wisdom view and then trying to show the parallels where they can be found in the Integral method first put forward by Ken Wilber.

Little Chelaship – Wisdom vs. Wilber

In the Ageless Wisdom teachings there are said to be “Six Stages of Discipleship” that represent certain spiritual lessons to be learned along the path. This post attempts to explain the first stage of “Little Chelaship” and compares it to what the Integral teachings by Ken Wilber have to say about spiritual growth and development.

Stage One: Little Chelaship

To begin with “chela” is related to the Hindi word meaning “a disciple of a spiritual teacher.” (Though a search for the meaning of the word on Google brings up an association with “beer” in Spanish!  Well, as we read along there might be something to this lower use of spirits instead of Spirit, so all may fit together here!  Smile!)  Humor aside, let’s now look once again at the chart below.

Levels – Orange and Group 6

As we continue to compare the Alice Bailey/Wisdom levels with those of Integral/Wilber, we move on to Group Six in the Bailey model and the Orange level in Integral.

Group Six and the Orange levels have been around for sometime, most notably as the ruling elite. (Note: I choose the picture for this post not only because you see Wall St. and symbols of the corporate media in the picture, but because it shows those above looking down on those below, giving the “elitist” feel).  The “elitists” can be found at the top of big corporations, banks, in the media, as rulers of countries, and also in the guise of the intelligentsia.

Levels – Amber and Group 4

This post moves on to compare the Alice Bailey/Wisdom levels and those of Integral/Wilber taking us into what Integral calls Amber and compares it with Bailey’s Group Four.

Said to be the largest segment of the world population by both the Alice Bailey teachings and those of the Integral movement, Amber is easily identifiable if you simply spend a short time surfing through hundreds of cable channels.  Understanding where most of humanity is at is very important if we are to help people move forward.
